Rhododendrons

Gardeners are fanatical about plants in general – but some are more special than others, and more often than not, they are of the flowering variety.

Rhododendrons are the perfect example:

Aficionados eagerly await their bloom each spring, and are rarely disappointed.

Photos were taken in early June at Concord Square in Massachusetts (not Florida), just down the road from Walden Pond.

North Florida is home to the Florida Flame Azalea (Rhododendron austrinum) which blooms in late March and April.

Oh how I miss Rhododendrons, there flowers are always so spectacular. They don't grow here in South Florida. Thanks for the beautiful photo, Robert.

"Fanatical about plants"? Maybe this gardener is keenly interested, but I'm not exactly fanatical. The term suggests a certain religious fervor or obsessive/manic behavior. Am I that bad? Well, almost. Okay, maybe I am a plant nut and a bit cracked to boot. That rhodie is a beaut, Mr. S. And you've got me thinking a lot about kettle ponds...

Definitely NOT in Florida. Spectacular blooms!... great job on sharing these amazing colorful flowers. They would surely perish in our temps.

Beautiful blooms. I didn't realize rhododendrons are related to azaleas, but they do look similar.
Hope you had fun in the north country.
