"Winter-like" summer?
What’s the coldest winter I’ve ever spent as a Floridian?
Mark Twain famously wrote that “the coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco,” but it applies equally well with Belgium summers.

Of course you hear sayings like that all the time, but just how true are they?
In the case of Belgium (as seen through the eyes of a Floridian), I say it’s a very true statement;
But don’t take my word for it:
Rather, take my numbers (… or at least a close look at this revealing graph).
Granted, data can only take you so far.
The true test is actually being there … or rather both “here” and “there,” as in both Belgium and Florida. (Currently I’m in Belgium.)
Belgium summers are to long pants what south Florida winters are to shorts:
They are the rule, although exceptionally a “heat wave” or blast of “cold air” dictates the alternative.
As to which is colder (or warmer), I’d say the jury is still out:
I need to see more data, plus weather the full mix of sunny and stormy days.
Answers typically reveal themselves over time.

It sure is cool out there in Belgium. I was visiting Brugges, and it must have been 46F at 10am, and keep in mind this was in June! I was like, "where is summer?"
Gee---if it's that cool in Belgium in 'summer'----wonder what it is in WINTER?????? Have you been there in winter???? Yipes!!!!

Nice photos of Belgium. It's not so bad to be cool in summer, is it?
Hope you're having fun.
Thanks for your comments. It swings back and forth to be sure. When its blue sky, the effect on ones mood is very noticeable. In "sunny all the time" Florida I sometimes lose track at how potent a mood enhancer the weather can be. The last two days have been lots of blue, and fairly crisp. But today ended with the faintest of drizzles, with a rainbow on the other side.
Robert,
I have never been any where in Europe, so I have really enjoyed following your trip. Sounds like you're having a great time. :-)

Thanks Daryl: Belgium and Florida are both maritime climates, but they couldn't be any more different. Belgium has seasons, but in the classical sense, not as in Florida's wet and dry season. We're not so much traveling as visiting family, but still, everything is new and fun to look at.
nice post and thanks for sharing....
